My Philosophy: Aesthetic Literacy
Aesthetic literacy is in all of us. All people are aesthetically literate to some degree; they are able to recognize good composition, clever design work, and well-crafted photographs. The question is: do you know why certain designs succeed visually while others do not? This type of literacy allows you to be in tune with the creative world.
My goal is aesthetic literacy. I believe it is the responsibility of the designer to improve the aesthetic literacy of their audience. This means having open discussions with designers and non-designers alike. It means thinking critically, being open to new ideas, and keeping designs simple. It also means respecting the viewer, what they know, and how their perspective changes the way your work is perceived.
I strive towards this kind of literacy. I believe in the importance of creativity and of constant critique and examination. I know that the best way to improve my own literacy is to keep an open mind to the world around me.
What’s with the desk?
My personal logo highlights my ideals. The desk represents my life-long education. I will never stop learning because the people that think they know everything, know the least. I approach learning with humility and enthusiasm.
